Introduction:

Jackson Health System and Jackson Health Foundation, joined by dignitaries, philanthropists, and members of Jackson’s clinical care team, broke ground on Jackson Memorial Hospital’s new emergency room.

Features:

The $300 million renovation will transform the current 48,000 square foot emergency department to a state-of-the-art facility spanning 178,800 square feet, making it one of the largest in the nation.

The reimagined emergency room will be a role model facility in quality, efficiency, and experience. Key enhancements to improve the patient experience include more than 200 patient rooms, a fast-track triage to reduce wait times, 50 observation rooms, six resuscitation rooms, and enhanced privacy for loved ones to be near patient care areas with family lounges and waiting areas.

The existing emergency room will undergo renovations to match the aesthetic of the new facility, which upon completion, will stand as one of the largest emergency rooms in the nation. Notably, the new facility will have separate entrances on Northwest 19th Street for adults, and Northwest 18th Street for pediatric patients. The pediatric area, within the facility, will have 30 rooms, a child-friendly environment, and a dedicated lobby and registration area. The new facility is slated to be completed in 2025 and the existing emergency room’s transformation will be completed in 2027.
