Bon Secours St. Francis Medical Center to Expand Midlothian Hospital with US$ 119 million

Introduction:

Bon Secours St. Francis Medical Center is planning to expand Midlothian Hospital with US$ 119 million in Midlothian, Virginia.

Features:

The 130-bed hospital's bed capacity will be increased by adding additional 55 acute care beds, including nine obstetrical beds, four intensive care beds, and 42 medical/surgical beds.

The expansion is projected to be about 110, 000 square feet and it allow for more flexibility in patient placement.

The expansion of the hospital helps patients for medical, surgical, obstetrical and intensive care.

Obstetrical beds count will be increased from 21 to 30 beds, intensive care beds from 16 to 21 beds, and 42 new medical/surgical beds will be added.

In addition to these 55 additional licensed beds, an observation unit with ten beds will be added.

These ten beds would be dedicated to observation patients and they are not included in St. Francis’ licensed bed complement.

Observation units allow for clinical decision care to be provided on a dedicated unit, and they reduce the number of observation patients occupying a licensed inpatient bed.

The hospital's parking will be expanded to accommodate the proposed bed expansion and two new-story additions would be constructed.

The first one will be constructed above the emergency department and the second above the inpatient bed tower.
