Introduction:
Royal Hobart Hospital Plans to expand the Emergency Department (ED), which has reached a significant milestone with the submission of a Development Application for the Main Works to the City of Hobart. This follows the confirmation of the concept design for the $130 million project.
Features:
The ED expansion will create a state-of-the-art facility spread across three levels, increasing the number of treatment points to improve patient flow and care standards.
The expanded ED will provide 120 treatment points across three floors, along with CT and X-Ray bays and two ultrasound rooms. A new paediatric zone, as well as separate waiting areas for children and individuals experiencing mental health distress, will also be included.
The project aims to reduce waiting times and length of stay in the ED, offering a more efficient and improved experience for both patients and visitors. It will also enhance safety and infection control, create a better working environment for staff, and improve the appearance of the area around Liverpool Street and Argyle Street.
The expansion of the phase II emergency department is set to open by 2027.
