Introduction:

Memorial Health has announced plans to build a new, state-of-the-art emergency department (ED) on its hospital campus, with an estimated investment of $56 million. The expansion aims to meet the increasing healthcare needs of the region as population growth and emergency visits continue to rise.

Features:

The expanded emergency department will include 24 treatment rooms, up from the current 15, with specialised areas for trauma, paediatrics, behavioural health, and isolation.

The layout will be designed to allow rapid triage, efficient collaboration among care teams, and improved patient flow to reduce waiting times.

Safety will also be enhanced through better separation of ambulance and public entry, as well as improved parking access.

Patient and family experience will be prioritised with private rooms, natural light, and dedicated waiting and consultation areas.

Input from physicians, nurses, and emergency medical services has helped shape the design to meet real-world care needs.

Construction of the new emergency department is expected to begin in 2026.
