Introduction

The City of Brownsville and DHR Health Brownsville have approved a Chapter 380 Grant Agreement to expand the city’s newest hospital. The project will increase the hospital’s space, enhance emergency and specialist medical services, and create new employment opportunities. The expansion highlights continued cooperation between the City and local partners to support economic growth and improve healthcare access for residents.

Features

The expansion will add approximately 14,000 square feet to the hospital. It includes six new emergency room bays, an enlarged ER waiting area, and six new surgical suites. The project will also introduce additional equipment to support two cardiac catheterisation labs, install a new Siemens 1.5T MRI system and a Dual Source CT scanner, and expand radiology services on the south side of the hospital.

The project is expected to create 20 new full-time jobs in the Brownsville healthcare market, offering opportunities for medical professionals and support staff while increasing the hospital’s capacity to treat more patients.

Site upgrades will include a larger ER entrance, a complete driveway loop to improve traffic flow and emergency access, and more than 34,000 square feet of new landscaped areas.

Overall, the expansion will strengthen local healthcare services by improving access to emergency care, specialist treatment, and advanced diagnostic capabilities.

The project is expected to be completed within two years after construction begins.
