Geisinger officials have unveiled ambitious plans to enhance healthcare accessibility and quality in the central Susquehanna Valley and beyond with a proposed $880 million expansion of Geisinger Medical Center.

The project includes the construction of a new 11-story tower at the hospital's front, adjacent to an expanded main entrance. This expansion will significantly transform and improve the Geisinger Medical Center campus with modern facilities and advanced tools, addressing the region’s current and future healthcare needs with a focus on patient experience and high-level care.

Key highlights of the new tower include:

• Larger Emergency Room: The ER will double in size, increasing from 45 beds to 60 beds, to accommodate more patients and improve care efficiency. Updated and expanded intensive care units and operating suites will be located near the ER, facilitating collaboration among medical teams for the most critically ill and injured patients.
• Private Rooms: The hospital will transition to a 100% private-room facility, providing each patient with a private space to recover and spend time with loved ones. This also allows medical teams more space to work collaboratively on patient care plans.

This expansion represents the latest investment in the region’s healthcare needs. Recently, Geisinger began construction on the Geisinger Behavioral Health Center Danville, a 96-bed inpatient facility in Mahoning Township, expected to open in 2025.
