Introduction
Essentia Health will begin construction of a new emergency department (ED) at its Fosston, Minnesota, hospital in April 2026, with Kraus-Anderson serving as the general contractor. The project will expand emergency care capacity, improve the patient experience, and add more than 5,500 square feet to the existing ED. It also represents a major investment in the hospital and the Fosston community.
Features
The emergency department will expand from 1,100 square feet to 6,700 square feet, creating additional space for patients, staff, and visitors. The new design will focus on safety, privacy, and efficient patient care.
The upgraded facility will include dedicated rooms for patients requiring behavioural health support, while Emergency Medical Services (EMS) will benefit from a new ambulance bay and improved access.
The project will also include interior and exterior upgrades across the hospital campus to improve comfort, accessibility, and the overall healing environment. Construction is expected to be completed by early summer 2027.
