Introduction:

East Alabama Health is set to expand the West Pavilion at East Alabama Medical Center (EAMC) by adding three new floors. This project will create space for 30 critical care beds and leave room for further growth in the future.

Features:

The new construction will add three floors to the existing two-story West Pavilion. Once complete, the expansion will provide an additional 67,395 square feet of space, distributed across three levels: mechanical space on the third floor, a dedicated area for future expansion on the fourth floor, and 30 new beds on the fifth floor.

Specifically, the fifth floor will feature a 20-bed ICU, complete with a satellite pharmacy, and a 10-bed unit designed to be flexible for either step-down care or intensive care.

With approval already granted by the Certificate of Need Review Board, construction is set to start in summer 2024. The project is expected to be completed by late fall 2025, with the first patients anticipated in early 2026.
