Bartow Regional Medical Center is set to invest $110 million in an expansion project to accommodate the needs of a growing population.

Features:

The BayCare Board of Trustees has approved a plan to increase the hospital's capacity from 72 to 90 beds, and enhance its emergency, catheterization lab, and surgical services departments.

Designed by Tampa-based HDR Architecture, the project will be carried out in multiple phases. The first step involves relocating Bartow Regional Medical Center's helipad to make space for the expanded Emergency Department, which will gain 27 examination areas and a second floor. The subsequent expansions include:

•     Moving the ICU to the new second floor and doubling its capacity from 6 to 12 beds
•     Adding a 12-bed ICU step-down unit on the new second floor
•     Adding one additional catheterization lab/interventional radiology suite
•     Adding two more operating rooms
•     Adding 11 new post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) bays
•     Creating space for the Sterile Processing Department (SPD)
•     Creating space for Clinical Engineering

The $110 million project also encompasses renovations to the Pharmacy, Lab, OR Support, SPD, and Central Plant areas. Construction is slated to begin by the end of this year.
