SureTome™ SW Sphincterotome with DomeTip® now available in the US and Canada

19 June 2026

Cook Medical’s new SureTome™ SW Sphincterotome with DomeTip® is now available in the United States and Canada. This next-generation sphincterotome enables advanced gastrointestinal endoscopists to easily and reliably access the hepatopancreatobiliary system. SureTome SW is an innovative addition to Cook’s portfolio of Endoscopy devices and continuing pipeline of new products.

The SureTome SW offers key features such as:

  • Cook’s proven DomeTip Technology, designed with anatomy in mind for smooth cannulation
  • Protector™ insulated coating to help aid in targeting the desired tissue during sphincterotomy
  • A proprietary pre-slit catheter for easy short-wire transitions and a rotatable handle for controlled positioning
  • Rotatable handle with smooth torque response for precise, controlled positioning

These useful features help physicians performing endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) procedures easily cannulate the desired duct, perform a precise and controlled cut, and maintain workflow efficiency throughout the procedure.

In addition to the device’s useful features, SureTome SW is also easy for physicians to integrate into their practice. The device is available preloaded with our Acrobat® 2 Calibrated Tip Wire Guide and is compatible with a variety of guide wires. With little training required, SureTome SW is a quick “plug-and-play” addition to any endoscopy suite. SureTome SW is an excellent complement to the rest of Cook’s Endoscopy portfolio, supporting physicians in performing ERCP procedures and making procurement processes easy to justify for SureTome SW.

For over 40 years, Cook Medical has provided proven sphincterotome technologies to empower the success of our global customers. At Cook, partnering with physicians has always been a core value. To anticipate the evolving needs of our customers, SureTome SW was designed in direct response to customer recommendations from their real-world clinical experiences. By combining physician feedback with new techniques, Cook created SureTome SW, which is used for cannulation of the ductal system and for sphincterotomy. If SureTome SW is preloaded with a wire guide, it can also aid in bridging difficult strictures.

FAQs
What is an ERCP procedure?

Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) procedures are procedures to diagnose and treat problems in the biliary tract, which includes the liver, gallbladder, bile ducts and pancreas.   According to the US NIH, there are currently more than 650,000 ERCP procedures performed per year in the United States alone.

What kinds of procedures is a sphincterotome good for?

Sphincterotomes are designed to be used in procedures that access the hepato-pancreato-biliary (HPB) system, which includes the accessory organs (liver, pancreas, gallbladder) and the connected ductal system of the GI digestive tract.

Common conditions treated include:

  • Liver cancers (benign / metastatic) and cysts
  • Pancreatic cancer, pancreatitis inflammation
  • Gallbladder cancer, gallstones, and inflammation
  • Bile duct cancer strictures and stone obstructions

ERCPs involve further diagnostic and therapeutic treatments to facilitate stone removal, stricture management, stent placement or bile drainage therapy.

What is the Cook Medical SureTome SW?

The Cook Medical SureTome SW is used for the cannulation of the biliary ductal system and for sphincterotomy.  If preloaded, it also aids in the bridging of difficult strictures during ERCP.

How does SureTome fit in with the rest of Cook Medical’s biliary portfolio?
SureTome SW is part of Cook Medical’s portfolio of HPB products. SureTome SW can be used with products like The Acrobat® 2 Calibrated Tip Wire Guide, the Evolution® Biliary Controlled-Release Stent and the Fusionâ Titan™ Biliary Dilation Balloon, and our complete portfolio of biliary and pancreatic plastic stents.
