Wednesday, Jan 09, 2019

LimaCorporate ( Lima ) and the most prestigious orthopedic hospital in the United States, Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS), announced today that they will create the world's first 3D printing site in a hospital for the production of complex and customized prostheses. This groundbreaking collaboration will lay the foundation for significantly increasing the availability and speed of personalized orthopedic care for patients with complex orthopedic needs in the United States.

Since 2016, the HSS has been classified by US News & World Report n. 1 in orthopedics for the last nine consecutive years, we provide customized implants on the specific needs of the patient from the Lima office in Italy. These devices, designed for the treatment of extremely complex clinical cases, use the Trabecular Titanium ™, a material patented by Lima , and the 3D printing technology. The close proximity of Lima's additive manufacturing to a hospital facility can significantly help healthcare professionals who in turn take care of patients.

The new production site, run by Lima on the main HSS campus in New York, in the Upper East Side, will leverage on-site presence of the advanced technology and experience of Lima , combined with HSS's expertise in the field of clinical care and biomechanical engineering. Collaboration will foster and accelerate innovation in complex articular orthopedic care, thus generating new products and solutions for patients in the United States.

Lima was a pioneer in 3D printing of standard and customized implants for orthopedic applications, and has over ten years of clinical studies on implants produced with 3D technology. "The close integration between surgeons and engineers is invaluable for designing and perfecting joint prostheses and identifying new solutions for the most complex cases," said Leonard Achan, RN, MA, ANP, Chief Innovation Officer at HSS.

"We are proud to be the first company in the world to produce prosthetic implants with 3D printing directly inside a hospital, where the collaboration between the best surgeons and engineers is closer than ever, and this is what defines Lima . company that has had in the past and will continue to have in the future the ambition to transform orthopedics challenging the status quo ", said Luigi Ferrari , CEO of LimaCorporate .

Lima will be the registered manufacturer for all devices designed and manufactured in this new, state-of-the-art facility located on the main HSS campus. The facility should be operational from the beginning of 2020, initially it will serve the hospitals of the region, and only in a second phase will the devices be available to all hospitals in the United States.
