3D tomosynthesis of samples can improve the results of surgical treatment of breast cancer, according to new findings
5 October 2024
At the 43rd Congress of the European Society for Surgical Oncology (ESSO), three leading experts in breast surgery presented data demonstrating the clinical benefits of The MOZART ® 3D Specimen Radiography System from KUBTEC ® .
Dr. Ash Kothari (Guy's Hospital, UK), Dr. Tomasz Sachańbiński (Opole Center for Oncology, Poland) and MUDr. Jan Beneš (České Budějovice Hospital, Czech Republic) shared data from their workplaces showing a consistent trend: the use of The MOZART System can significantly reduce the need for reoperations in breast cancer patients. MD Jan Beneš also presented data on how the MOZART system made it possible to preserve a greater proportion of healthy tissue during operations at his workplace, which is an important factor for improving the cosmetic effect after surgery.
"Thanks to tomosynthesis imaging technology, the MOZART system provides immediate and highly detailed 3D information that allows us to make more precise surgical decisions," said Dr. Kothari. "Reducing the number of reoperations is a huge benefit for both patients and health care systems."
The data presented at the symposium supported previous clinical findings from the USA , where the MOZART system has proven itself for several years as a valuable tool for intraoperative assessment of resection margins. As several studies have shown, this system not only contributes to reducing the number of reoperations, but also improves the cosmetic result of patients and the overall effectiveness of the procedure.*
Richard Whelton, Head of Marketing at KUBTEC, said: “We are very pleased but not surprised by this new data from Europe. At KUBTEC, we believe that the MOZART system should become part of the standard management of resection margins. We therefore appeal to other breast surgeons from around the world to contribute their knowledge and help us together shape the future of breast surgery."
