Wandercraft's Atalante X Rehabilitation Exoskeleton Receives Regulatory Clearance in Ecuador

Wandercraft has received regulatory clearance from Ecuador's Agencia Nacional de Regulación, Control y Vigilancia Sanitaria (ARCSA) for the use of its Atalante X self-balancing rehabilitation exoskeleton in patients with spinal cord injuries (C4 to L5), stroke-related hemiplegia and multiple sclerosis.
The approval supports the company's strategy to expand access to advanced rehabilitation technologies across Latin America. Atalante X is currently in use at more than 150 clinical and research centres worldwide, where it enables rehabilitation teams to deliver hands-free, overground walking therapy for patients with severe mobility impairments.
La Clínica de Lesiones Deportivas in Quito will become the first healthcare facility in Ecuador to introduce Atalante X. The installation will provide clinicians with access to a self-balancing robotic gait rehabilitation system designed to support intensive therapy for patients with neurological conditions.
Wandercraft is also exploring opportunities to expand into other Latin American markets, including Costa Rica and Chile, as rehabilitation providers seek technologies that can improve therapy intensity, patient engagement and clinical outcomes.
Atalante X is designed to provide autonomous balance control, allowing eligible patients to stand and walk without the need for crutches or walkers during supervised rehabilitation sessions. The system supports high-dose, task-specific gait training through repeated walking, turning, weight shifting and multidirectional movement. Powered hip, knee and ankle joints work together with the self-balancing technology to promote natural walking patterns during rehabilitation.
The exoskeleton is also intended to improve workflow within rehabilitation centres by supporting high therapy volumes while reducing the physical demands placed on therapists. Its seated fitting process and hands-free operation enable clinicians to focus on treatment goals rather than maintaining patient balance. According to the company, the technology may also help healthcare providers address increasing patient demand, staffing challenges and the need to improve rehabilitation efficiency and outcomes.
