Spectral AI Submits NTAP Application for DeepView System

7 October 2026

Spectral AI has submitted a New Technology Add-On Payment (NTAP) application to the US Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) for its DeepView™ System. The company is seeking approval through the alternative pathway as part of its efforts to support the adoption of the technology in hospital settings.

The NTAP programme provides additional Medicare payments for eligible inpatient cases involving certain new technologies and medical services. The programme is intended to help hospitals manage the additional costs associated with adopting innovative technologies and improve patient access to new treatments and diagnostic tools.

The DeepView System is a non-invasive predictive medical device that combines multispectral imaging with an artificial intelligence (AI) algorithm to assess the healing potential of areas within burn wounds. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granted the system De Novo classification in May 2026.

If the application meets CMS requirements and is approved, qualifying cases could receive an additional Medicare payment. The additional payment is generally limited to around 65% of the estimated cost of the qualifying new technology, subject to applicable requirements and payment limits.

Spectral AI expects CMS to make a final decision on the application in August 2027. If approved, NTAP payment status would generally begin in October 2027 and remain available for approximately three years.

The company is pursuing the NTAP application as part of its wider commercialisation strategy for DeepView. The potential additional reimbursement is intended to help hospitals manage the cost of adopting the system and reduce barriers to its use in appropriate inpatient settings.

Spectral AI plans to continue evaluating other reimbursement and payment pathways to support the wider adoption of the DeepView System and improve access to its AI-based burn-wound assessment technology.
