Sonde Health Launches Advanced Solution for Monitoring Cognitive Fitness

31 July 2024

Sonde Health is expanding its health monitoring capabilities with the introduction of Sonde Cognitive Fitness, a new tool designed to track cognitive exertion in real-time.

This innovative tracker, part of Sonde’s broader health platform, analyzes vocal characteristics from brief 30-second voice samples to provide insights into cognitive effort and overall mental well-being.

Sonde Cognitive Fitness allows users to monitor their cognitive effort levels, which can help optimize productivity and reduce cognitive strain.

This tool is timely given the rising prevalence of cognitive impairment in older adults—almost 20% of those over 50 are affected by mild cognitive impairment (MCI), and over 55 million people globally live with dementia, a figure projected to nearly triple by 2050.

Recent FDA approval of a new drug for early Alzheimer’s intervention underscores the need for tools that support early cognitive health management.

Sonde Cognitive Fitness marks an exciting development for our company as we now offer solutions that analyze vocal biomarkers for cognitive, mental, and respiratory health.

While not a diagnostic tool, it provides valuable early indicators of cognitive effort through speech, helping users understand their cognitive state and manage their workload more effectively.

The tracker works by analyzing a 30-second voice sample collected via most smart devices. It measures vocal biomarkers to produce a score indicating cognitive effort: scores of 80 to 100 are classified as "Efficient" (low effort), 70 to 79 as "Balanced" (moderate effort), and 0 to 69 as "Demanding" (high effort).

Sonde Cognitive Fitness integrates easily through its API and SDK. It ensures user privacy by processing voice samples solely from enrolled and consented users, with no data stored or transmitted off the device.

Developed with partners like GN Group and cognitive experts from Massachusetts General Hospital and Montefiore Medical Center at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Sonde Cognitive Fitness was validated through research involving nearly 700 older adults.

The tool’s scores were consistent with traditional cognitive assessment methods such as the Addenbrooke’s Cognitive Examination (ACE), the Blessed Dementia Scale, and the Clinical Dementia Rating (CDR) scale.
