Nutex Health Launches Innovative Psychiatric Services At Texas Hospital

5 October 2023

Nutex Health Inc. (NASDAQ: NUTX), a leader in physician-led, technology-driven integrated healthcare delivery, which comprises 22 cutting-edge micro hospitals across 8 states and primary care-focused physician networks, has made a significant announcement today. SE Texas ER & Hospital, a hospital affiliated with Nutex, situated at 19211 McKay Drive in Humble, TX, is now equipped to provide 24/7 behavioral health services alongside its emergency care offerings.

This development means that SE Texas ER & Hospital can now offer specialized care to both adult and adolescent patients experiencing acute psychiatric issues within their emergency room. This is made possible through a collaborative effort with psychiatric providers utilizing a secure Telehealth platform. Patients will receive psychiatric evaluations in the ER and receive tailored treatment plans, which may include immediate psychiatric interventions when necessary.

This strategic move by Nutex represents a broader initiative to expand the reach of its hospitals and address a pressing need in traditional emergency rooms - the reduction of wait times and improved care for behavioral health patients. Historically, prolonged wait times have been a significant challenge in emergency departments. Nutex envisions that this innovative approach will set a precedent and open doors for similar services in its affiliated hospitals in the future.

Tom Vo, M.D., MBA, Chairman, and Chief Executive Officer of Nutex Health, emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, "Behavioral health emergencies have always presented a major challenge in emergency rooms. Currently, these patients endure hours or even days of waiting to be seen by a psychiatric provider, causing disruptions to both their lives and the emergency departments. With our pioneering model, one of the first of its kind in the country, these patients will receive real-time care from both a psychiatric provider and an ER physician. This combination of treatment allows for immediate care and discharge, unlike the current norm for behavioral health patients."

Dr. Michael Chang, MD, FAAEM, Chief Medical Officer at SE Texas ER & Hospital, expressed his enthusiasm for this community-focused initiative, saying, "Nutex is stepping in to meet a significant community demand for mental health intervention with these new services. I'm delighted that we can now offer prompt and personalized mental health care in a comfortable environment that prioritizes our patients. This initiative embodies our patient-first philosophy."
