This metric is the first in a series of advanced brain health tools that provide users with personalized insights into cognitive function through an intuitive score, aiming to boost mental fitness.

Research indicates that cognitive functions such as memory, executive functions, processing speed, and reasoning can begin to deteriorate as early as the 30s. Furthermore, mild cognitive impairment (MCI) affects 10-20% of adults over 65, with the potential to progress to more severe cognitive issues if not managed effectively.
Alpha Peak: The Brain's HRV Equivalent
Alpha Peak is designed to function like heart rate variability (HRV), offering insights into the brain’s aging process and enabling users to manage their cognitive health.
Alpha peak frequency (APF) changes with age: it increases during childhood, peaks in early adulthood, and then declines. This trend reflects its association with cognitive development and aging.
A 2016 study involving over 6,000 participants using Muse devices found a significant correlation between APF and cognitive performance, including overall cognitive health, processing speed, and memory.
With Muse’s mEEG devices, users can measure their APF after biofeedback sessions to obtain a cognitive performance score and receive tailored recommendations for optimizing alpha wave activity.
After completing several sessions, users establish a personalized baseline and receive a graph indicating whether their Alpha Peak is within, below, or above this baseline.
Users can also monitor lifestyle factors such as diet, exercise, and sleep, correlating these changes with their Alpha Peak score and receiving customized suggestions to improve their habits.
