MiniMed Flex™ Insulin Pump Now Available to Medicare and Medicare Advantage Beneficiaries
23 July 2026
MiniMed has announced that its MiniMed Flex™ insulin pump system is now available to Medicare and Medicare Advantage beneficiaries in the United States. The expanded access enables more people living with diabetes to use the company's smallest app-controlled insulin pump system together with its latest continuous glucose monitoring sensor portfolio.
The MiniMed Flex™ system has been designed to simplify diabetes management through a compact design that is around half the size of previous MiniMed insulin pumps while still holding up to 300 units of insulin. The system uses the same SmartGuard™ technology found in the MiniMed™ 780G system, which automatically adjusts insulin delivery every five minutes throughout the day and night.
The wider availability follows positive real-world results reported at the 86th American Diabetes Association Scientific Sessions. The findings showed that Medicare beneficiaries using the MiniMed™ 780G system achieved glucose control levels that exceeded the American Diabetes Association's recommended glycaemic targets, demonstrating the effectiveness of the SmartGuard™ technology.
MiniMed stated that extending Medicare coverage is intended to improve access to advanced diabetes technology and reduce the daily burden of diabetes management for eligible patients.
In the United States, the MiniMed Flex™ system is currently available with the Simplera Sync™ sensor. The company also plans to introduce compatibility with the Instinct sensor, developed by Abbott, later this summer.
