Memorial Healthcare System Performs First Implantation of Investigational VenusP-Valve for Congenital Heart Disease

Memorial Regional Hospital and Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital have completed their first implantation of the investigational VenusP-Valve System, a minimally invasive treatment for patients requiring pulmonary valve replacement due to congenital heart disease.
The Memorial Healthcare System is the only hospital network in the southeastern United States and one of just five in the country authorised to use the VenusP-Valve System. The procedure was carried out in the Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory at Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital as part of an early feasibility clinical trial. The two hospitals are among only 10 institutions in the United States participating in the study.
The VenusP-Valve System is a next-generation transcatheter pulmonary valve designed to accommodate a wider range of patient anatomies than existing transcatheter valve technologies. Available in multiple sizes, the device is intended to expand treatment options for patients whose heart anatomy may not be suitable for currently available valves.
The investigational device is being evaluated for patients with right ventricular outflow tract dysfunction, a condition commonly associated with certain congenital heart defects that require pulmonary valve replacement.
The valve is implanted using a catheter inserted through a blood vessel, avoiding the need for open-heart surgery. This minimally invasive approach has the potential to reduce recovery time while restoring normal blood flow through the heart.
By participating in the early feasibility trial, Memorial Regional Hospital and Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital are contributing to the evaluation of the safety and effectiveness of the VenusP-Valve System while providing eligible patients with access to an investigational treatment before it becomes more widely available.
The hospitals continue to expand their congenital heart programme through advanced catheter-based therapies, hybrid procedures and specialised care for infants, children and adults with congenital and acquired heart conditions.
