Leo Cancer Care Secures CE Mark for Marie Upright Radiotherapy System in Europe
21 May 2026
Leo Cancer Care has received CE mark approval for Marie®, its upright radiotherapy system designed to change conventional cancer treatment approaches in Europe.
Traditional radiotherapy systems require patients to lie flat and remain still during treatment. Marie® introduces an upright treatment approach aimed at improving patient comfort while supporting modern radiotherapy techniques.
The company said the system combines upright patient positioning with a beam-agnostic design that is compatible with different particle therapy modalities. The platform has been developed to support both current and future radiotherapy treatments.
Potential benefits of the system include a more comfortable treatment experience for patients, support for online adaptive and arc therapy, improved accessibility for healthcare institutions that cannot implement traditional particle therapy systems, and a flexible platform for future treatment developments.
Leo Cancer Care stated that upright treatment delivery may also simplify treatment room design and improve operational efficiency for cancer centres.
The CE mark confirms that Marie® meets European requirements for safety, performance and clinical readiness following several years of research, engineering and clinical collaboration.
Centre Léon Bérard, a cancer care and research hospital, has worked with Leo Cancer Care as a long-term research partner. Following the CE approval, the collaboration will expand to focus on anatomical imaging and upright patient positioning using Marie’s upright CT capabilities.
The company has also started European installations with Centro Nazionale di Adroterapia Oncologica, with plans to begin patient treatments before the end of the year.
Leo Cancer Care said it is continuing discussions with cancer centres across Europe to support wider adoption of upright radiotherapy technology focused on treatment precision and patient experience.
