KARL STORZ IMAGE1 S Surgical Video System Achieves Top Cybersecurity Certification

13 November 2024

KARL STORZ, a leader in endoscopic imaging and operating room (OR) integration, has announced that its IMAGE1 S® CONNECT II camera control unit has achieved certification under UL 2900-2-1, through the UL Cybersecurity Assurance Program. UL 2900-2-1, recognized by the FDA, is a national standard published by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) to ensure that medical devices meet cybersecurity testing requirements.

This certification reflects KARL STORZ’s commitment to modern cybersecurity standards, helping to demonstrate that the IMAGE1 S system aligns with today’s security requirements. IMAGE1 S is currently the only surgical camera system to have earned this recognition.

For healthcare providers and network administrators, certification to the UL 2900 series serves as an assurance that the product has undergone rigorous third-party testing, helping to address cybersecurity risks in medical technology.

The IMAGE1 S platform offers modular and scalable imaging capabilities, allowing users to integrate a variety of functionalities, such as HD, 4K, 3D, and NIR/ICG imaging, for both rigid and flexible endoscopes.

With the CONNECT II camera control unit at its core, the system supports KARL STORZ’s comprehensive OR integration solutions, providing flexibility and compatibility with future advancements.

Cybersecurity is a foundational element in KARL STORZ’s approach to product development. Last year, KARL STORZ was the first OR integration solution provider to obtain an Authorization to Operate (ATO) from the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), Defense Health Agency (DHA), following successful clearance of extensive IT security and privacy protocols for use in military healthcare facilities.

With this latest certification, KARL STORZ continues to build on its commitment to secure and future-ready medical technology, reducing cybersecurity risks that could disrupt care delivery and impact healthcare costs.
