Improving Hypertension Treatment in Primary Care Settings: K Health's Latest Study Explores the Benefits of AI

1 December 2023

K Health, a primary care company leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI), has recently unveiled its peer-reviewed research in Mayo Clinic Proceedings: Digital Health. The study demonstrates the capacity of K Health's AI to deliver personalized information for hypertension treatment in patient-facing environments. Given that hypertension affects almost half of American adults and poses a significant risk for heart attacks and strokes, the research addresses the longstanding challenge of effectively implementing treatment guidelines in routine medical practice.

Key findings from the research encompass: The AI model, developed and validated using anonymized data from 16,917 real-world primary care cases, aims to aid physicians in personalizing treatment and stabilizing patients with hypertension during their care. Effectiveness in predicting optimal medication regimens based on various factors, including gender, age, ethnicity, chronic conditions, blood pressure, and relevant laboratory results.

Noteworthy alignment of treatment recommendations from the AI model with established clinical JNC 8 hypertension medication guidelines, surpassing the observed alignment in actual physician practice (95.7% vs. 77.9%). This study underscores the potential of machine learning to accurately predict optimal antihypertensive treatments, mitigate side effects, and adhere closely to established guidelines. It serves as an illustration of how AI can significantly contribute to reducing severe complications like heart attacks and strokes, enabling doctors to practice at the highest level of their expertise.
