ImageBiopsy Lab Launches IB Lab FLAMINGO for Automated Osteoporotic Spine Fracture Detection in CT Scans

30 November 2023

ImageBiopsy Lab debuts IB Lab FLAMINGO at RSNA, showcasing a groundbreaking solution for automated detection of asymptomatic spinal fractures in CT scans. The software employs the gold standard Genant classification to identify relevant fractures, offering proactive treatment options for healthcare professionals.

Developed in collaboration with UCB, this deep-learning model presents a unique approach to addressing the global treatment gap in osteoporosis, where 80% of fragility fractures go undiagnosed and untreated annually. Osteoporosis affects around 200 million people worldwide, resulting in approximately 9 million fragility fractures annually, predominantly vertebral fractures (VFs).

Beyond personal suffering, these fractures strain public health systems, elevating treatment costs and mortality rates, posing significant societal challenges. In the context of an aging society, osteoporosis, especially geriatric fractures, poses challenges for patients, physicians, and healthcare systems. IB Lab FLAMINGO's automated detection of vertebral fractures offers a critical solution for early risk assessment and targeted treatment, addressing the complexities associated with osteoporosis.
