Evidation Introduces MigraineSmart: A Wearable Data-Driven Migraine Tracking Program on Its App

21 June 2024

Evidation, known for innovative health measurement and improvement methods, is introducing MigraineSmart, a new program on the Evidation app designed to help users track and understand their migraine symptoms more effectively.

Migraines affect over 40 million Americans, with a higher prevalence among women. This chronic and disabling condition impacts quality of life, physical and mental health, work, and personal relationships. Migraines are caused by a combination of genetic and environmental factors, including specific triggers. Despite many treatment options, many people in the United States do not receive adequate care.

MigraineSmart, an interactive symptom tracking program within the Evidation app, utilizes survey data, electronic patient-reported outcomes (ePROs), wearable data, and evidence-based content to help individuals manage their migraines.

Key features of MigraineSmart include:

  • Personalized Insights: Weekly insights and monthly reports that align symptom logs with wearable data, helping participants understand the connection between their symptoms and daily activities.
  • Rewards for Engagement: Users earn points redeemable for cash or charity by logging symptoms and engaging with educational content and insights.
  • Opt-in Research Opportunities: Participants can choose to share additional health data, such as claims data and electronic health records, with researchers. This data can help researchers understand the real-world experiences of migraine sufferers outside of clinical settings.

Enrollment for MigraineSmart begins on the Evidation app on July 1, 2024. Interested individuals can sign up to be notified when enrollment begins.

"Migraine experiences vary widely across individuals. Harnessing everyday health data holds tremendous promise for advancing deeper understanding of this condition," said Meg Dryer, General Manager, Consumer. "Our goal is to generate new disease models that will contribute to a deeper, real-world understanding of migraines that can make a difference for patients."

A pilot study of 3,492 MigraineSmart participants revealed:

  • 43% reported using prescribed medication, with triptans being the most common.
  • Participants logged 50% fewer steps on migraine days compared to non-migraine days.
  • Over 50% shared or planned to share their MigraineSmart reports with healthcare providers.

Since 2018, Evidation has been conducting research on the everyday impact of migraines. A recent survey of 21,702 individuals with migraines found that 41% did not consult a healthcare provider for their symptoms in the past year. Younger individuals (aged 18-44) were less likely to use prescription medications despite experiencing a higher disease burden. For more insights from this survey, contact press@evidation.com.

"The lived experience of migraine sufferers is not sufficiently characterized by claims or clinical data. MigraineSmart generates high-resolution, research-grade data and insights that are actionable for patients and relevant for health researchers.

Founded over a decade ago, Evidation has been dedicated to understanding the impact of various conditions across therapeutic areas. Their work focuses on disease onset and progression, treatment impact, disease management experiences, quality of life, and social determinants of health across diverse populations over time.

Evidation prioritizes user privacy and consent, and participation in MigraineSmart is voluntary. To download the Evidation app and join the program, visit the Google Play and Apple App Store.
