Drfirst Healthcare Innovations Collaborates With Meditech To Power E-prescribing In Canada

10 August 2023

DrFirst Healthcare Innovations has announced a collaboration with MEDITECH aimed at facilitating electronic prescribing for hospitals utilizing the Expanse Electronic Health Record (EHR) system in Canada. This partnership aligns with MEDITECH's partnership with Canada Health Infoway to integrate with their national e-prescribing service, PrescribeIT®.

The integration of e-prescribing presents numerous advantages for physicians, pharmacies, and patients. It eradicates the need for faxing or calling in prescriptions to pharmacies, reduces the chances of transcription errors, minimizes potential fraud instances, and saves time for patients by eliminating the necessity to drop off written prescriptions at the pharmacy. The integration of DrFirst Healthcare Innovations with the MEDITECH Expanse EHR facilitates access to a directory of community pharmacies and ensures adherence to the intricate technical prerequisites for secure e-prescribing through PrescribeIT®.

G. Cameron Deemer, CEO of DrFirst Healthcare Innovations, highlighted the safety and efficiency benefits of e-prescribing, expressing, "E-prescribing enhances patient safety while streamlining processes for prescribers and pharmacists. Our longstanding partnership with MEDITECH and this collaborative endeavor to introduce and expedite e-prescribing adoption in Canada underscores our commitment to benefiting patients, hospitals, and pharmacies."

Earlier this year, MEDITECH unveiled its plans for Humber River Health in Toronto, ON, to become the first Canadian hospital to implement PrescribeIT® within the Expanse EHR. This implementation is anticipated to become operational this fall.

Robert Molloy, MEDITECH Director, Canadian Market and Product Strategy, underscored the transformative impact of e-prescribing, stating, "The introduction of e-prescribing in Canada is a game-changer. The integration with DrFirst Healthcare Innovations amplifies our alignment with Canada Health Infoway and PrescribeIT®, ultimately advancing safer and more efficient healthcare delivery while enhancing patient convenience."

Jamie Bruce, EVP of PrescribeIT®, noted the significance of the partnership, affirming, "The collaboration between MEDITECH and DrFirst represents a substantial leap forward in PrescribeIT's mission to revolutionize prescription transmission. This collaboration will elevate patient care, optimize workflows, and empower healthcare professionals with a seamless and secure prescription experience."

With a history of partnering with MEDITECH in U.S. hospitals for e-prescribing and other medication management solutions, DrFirst Healthcare Innovations brings its expertise to bear in augmenting productivity and streamlining the collection of patients' medication history for informed prescribing decisions.
