DispatchHealth Becomes First to Receive ACHC Accreditation for In-Home Hospital Care

22 November 2024

DispatchHealth has become the first organisation to receive the Accreditation Commission for Health Care's (ACHC) new In-Home Hospital Care Accreditation for its Advanced Care service.

This accreditation highlights DispatchHealth’s commitment to providing hospital-level care to patients in the comfort of their own homes, maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and patient-focused care.

The accreditation recognises the company’s progress in delivering high-quality care in patients' homes, covering conditions such as congestive heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and pneumonia, among others. Studies show that this approach results in lower readmission rates and reduced mortality, saving an estimated £4,000 to £5,500 per patient. The success of this model demonstrates the potential for hospital-alternative care to improve clinical outcomes while offering significant financial benefits.

The in-home hospital care model has gained increasing popularity, especially as patient preferences shift towards receiving treatment at home rather than in hospitals. It has also been driven by the need for more cost-effective healthcare solutions, as well as lessons learned during the COVID-19 pandemic. The hospital-at-home market is expected to grow significantly over the next decade, with analysts estimating it could be worth billions as more health systems and insurers look for alternatives to traditional inpatient care.

The extension of the Acute Hospital Care at Home waiver is also expected to pass soon, which will further open up opportunities for expanding in-home hospital care. As one of the pioneers in this space, DispatchHealth is well-placed to lead these developments and benefit from the ongoing changes in healthcare delivery.

By achieving this accreditation, DispatchHealth sets a high standard for the hospital-at-home industry, showcasing its leadership in expanding access to safe, effective, and patient-centred care.
