DexCare Acquires Mila Health to Expand AI-Powered Care Coordination

22 September 2026

DexCare has acquired Mila Health, an artificial intelligence (AI) care coordination company that uses AI agents to communicate with patients through calls, text messages and chat. The acquisition expands DexCare’s AI capabilities beyond appointment scheduling to broader patient care coordination.

Mila’s technology operates using DexCare’s access data model, which standardises scheduling information, healthcare service rules and operational knowledge. The model has supported more than 10 million bookings and is designed to help healthcare organisations manage patient access across different services.

The combined platform will allow AI agents to support tasks such as contacting patients who are due for appointments, helping them prepare for procedures and providing follow-up after care. The system uses approved workflows and healthcare organisation-specific rules to guide patient interactions.

DexCare’s platform brings together information such as provider availability, referral requirements, insurance rules, credentials and scheduling procedures. This enables Mila’s AI agents to consider these requirements when helping patients identify suitable appointments and care options.

Mila works with healthcare providers, payers and health technology systems. According to the company, its AI agents achieve a 54% patient response rate during outbound communications, which is 80% higher than manual call centres. The technology has also been associated with a 50% reduction in missed appointments and an 18% increase in revenue.

The platform is designed to automate routine coordination tasks while allowing healthcare staff to focus on activities that require human involvement. It can operate within existing systems and workflows through an API-first architecture.

The acquisition also aims to help healthcare organisations deploy AI agents that can be configured and governed according to their specific operational requirements. DexCare and Mila will use the combined technology to support more complex patient access and care coordination needs across healthcare systems.
