Cardiologists from China and Indonesia have completed Southeast Asia's first complex chronic total occlusion (CTO) procedure using United Imaging Healthcare's uAngio AVIVA angiography system in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The procedure was carried out by Dr Song Lei of Fuwai Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, and Dr Arif Sejati of MRCCC Siloam Semanggi. It was performed as part of the Advanced CTO Masterclass 2026, co-hosted by United Imaging Healthcare and MRCCC Siloam Semanggi.

The procedure was broadcast live to more than 500 interventional cardiologists across Southeast Asia as part of the training programme. The demonstration focused on the use of high-definition imaging and low-radiation technology to support complex cardiovascular interventions.

The uAngio AVIVA system provided detailed imaging during the procedure while using an ultra-low radiation dose. This allowed the medical teams to navigate complex coronary blockages and demonstrate techniques for CTO interventions.

The event brought together cardiologists and medical experts from China, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia for clinical knowledge sharing and practical training. The live case and online discussions were designed to support the exchange of expertise and strengthen regional capabilities in complex coronary procedures.

MRCCC Siloam Semanggi, part of Siloam International Hospitals, served as the host centre for the procedure. The hospital is a referral centre for oncology and cardiovascular care in Indonesia.

The masterclass also highlighted the growing need for advanced cardiovascular expertise in Southeast Asia. With Indonesia's population exceeding 280 million, initiatives that provide access to specialist training and live clinical demonstrations can support the development of local capabilities in complex coronary care.

The programme represents a step towards greater cross-border collaboration and knowledge exchange among interventional cardiologists across the Asia-Pacific region.
