29 August 2024
Cardinal Health has opened a new distribution center in Greenville, South Carolina, dedicated to its at-Home Solutions division.
This facility, the largest of its kind for Cardinal Health at-Home Solutions, is expected to create approximately 200 jobs and is only the second distribution center the company has built from the ground up.
The home healthcare sector has experienced significant growth since the COVID-19 pandemic, driven by the aging population and the rise in chronic conditions.
The Fortune Business Insights report from May 2024 indicates that the U.S. home healthcare market is projected to increase from over $100 billion in 2024 to $176.3 billion by 2032.
The National Council on Aging (NCOA) forecasts that the number of Americans aged 65 and older will surpass 80 million by 2040, nearly doubling the 2000 figure. Many older adults are managing multiple chronic health conditions, including diabetes and chronic bronchitis.
The new Greenville distribution center spans 350,000 square feet and will utilize advanced automation, artificial intelligence, and robotics to handle nearly 8,000 packages daily.
These packages will include a variety of medical supplies such as diabetes management tools, incontinence products, breast pumps, and enteral nutrition supplies.
The Greenville Chamber's Economic Competitiveness senior vice president highlighted the region's suitability for the new center, noting its skilled workforce and innovative spirit.
The facility's arrival is seen as a significant addition to the community, which is well-positioned to support this critical healthcare operation.
The opening of the new center underscores Cardinal Health's commitment to enhancing its supply chain and meeting the growing demand for home healthcare services, reflecting the company's dedication to delivering essential medical supplies efficiently and effectively.
