Cairn Surgical, a leader in medical technology focused on improving precision in breast cancer surgery, has secured $4.5 million in Series A2 funding, led by Morningside Ventures.

The funds will be used to complete the ongoing U.S. pivotal trial for the Breast Cancer Locator (BCL™) System and to launch the technology in select European markets.

Breast Conserving Surgery (BCS) often fails to completely remove tumors in about 20% of cases due to limitations in current localization techniques.

The BCL System addresses this issue by providing detailed information about the tumor’s size, shape, and precise location. Utilizing a supine MRI of the breast, the system creates a custom 3D-printed mold tailored to the patient's unique anatomy.

This mold, along with an interactive 3D model of the tumor, assists surgeons in accurately identifying and removing the tumor.

The BCL System has demonstrated significant potential in improving breast cancer surgery outcomes and has shown promising results in European trials. The development of this technology is expected to enhance patient care and reduce overall healthcare costs.
