BD Completes Acquisition of Critical Care Division from Edwards Lifesciences

BD, a leader in medical technologies across the globe has made an announcement of the acquisition of the Critical Care product group from Edwards Lifesciences who will now be referred to as BD Advanced Patient Monitoring.
By integrating advanced monitoring technologies, AI-driven clinical decision support tools and a committed pipeline for innovation, this acquisition is seen to strengthen BD’s portfolio.
The BD Alaris ™ Infusion system is commonly used with the BD Advanced Patient Monitoring technologies in operating rooms and intensive care units.
This process is expected to create more paths towards innovation by incorporating closed-loop hemodynamic monitoring along with streamlined intravenous fluid and drug delivery whose success depends on improved data interoperability and integration.
The range of products under BD Advanced Patient Monitoring includes Swan Ganz pulmonary artery catheter, minimally invasive sensors, non invasive cuffs, tissue oximetry sensors and monitors.
These technologies are designed based on advanced data analytics, machine learning, artificial intelligence algorithms that provide deeper understanding of patients’ conditions supporting their clinical decision-making processes.
The newly acquired division will become a standalone business unit within BD’s Medical segment while continuing operations from Irvine California where it had been operating before taking over that part belonging to Edwards life sciences Inc., which was established in 2015,will lead the unit as Worldwide President, reporting to Mike Garrison, Executive Vice President and President of BD Medical.
The fiscal year 2024 financial prognosis given by BD on August 1 in the third quarter earnings release would not be significantly affected by the acquisition.
